 People volunteer for Latino Gay Men of New York for a wide variety of reasons, especially wanting to help others. But it's also OK to want some benefits for yourself from volunteering. The best volunteering does involve the desire to serve others, but this does not exclude other motivations, as well. Instead of considering volunteering as something you do for people who are not as fortunate as yourself, begin to think of it as an exchange. |

Farid and George. We volunteer because we believe in the work of Latino Gay Men of New York. We not only enjoy helping out an organization that represents our community, it gives us an opportunity to meet new people and share new experiences together as a couple. |

Jose. I volunteer because I wanted to add some volunteer work to my experience and I thought it would look good on my resume. I get to work in a team and I'm encouraged to take the initiative to things accomplished. I enjoy learning new things and I get a lot satisfaction from feeling I'm making a difference. |

Mark. Volunteering for Latino Gay Men of New York gives me a chance to connect to my community in ways other than just clubbing and hanging out. I also get to donate my professional skills to the organization and at the same time gaining leadership skills which translate over into my career. |

Luis. For me, it's important for me to stay in touch with my latino roots and not forget where I came from. Even though I'm latino, everyone assumes I'm African American so it's for me to represent and show people that latinos come in all colors. I come because I get to meet really cool people in the community I might otherwise not meet. |

Phillip. My work with Latino Gay Men of New York allows me to interact and represent the latino gay male community of which I belong to. It has given me the opportunity to meet the challenges our community faces head-on and work to create a space that makes it safe for all gay, bisexual and transgendered men of hispanic descent to be who they are. |
