Latino Gay Men of New York (LGMNY), a non-profit organization for gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning Latino men, promotes community building, organizing, advocacy and coalitions. We provide an affirming environment to strengthen and support individuals by advancing self-awareness, positive images, visibility and serve as a voice for our members on issues that impact our lives.

The organization was founded in 1991 to promote a positive image of the Latino gay, bisexual and transgender community.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

LGMNY's goal is to organize monthly social/cultural meetings and participate in coalition work, political discussions, community organizing and advocacy, to enhance the personal life experiences of Latino gay, bisexual and transgender persons by facilitating exchanges of common interests, values and concerns that strengthen individual and community self-esteem in a way that creates societal change. LGMNY aims to educate and enrich its members with an awareness of its own multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multilingual community and inform the general New York lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community of a Latino-based LGBT community committed to improving its educational, political, cultural, health, and socioeconomic standing. With this mission as its mandate, LGMNY will hold all its events in both English and Spanish and educate its members on the history and current status of New York's LGBT community specifically emphasizing the history of Latino/a LGBT people in the Americas.

From its beginning in 1991, LGMNY has served as a conduit for scholars and researchers investigating the gay Latino community, and has disseminated bilingual information to increase the practice of safer sex and decrease risky sexual behavior. LGMNY is a member of Mano a Mano, a coalition of Latino LGBT organizations in New York City.

FIRST FRIDAY FORUMS

LGMNY holds monthly meetings on the first friday of each month at the LGBT Community Center at 208 West 13th Street, near 7th Ave. in Manhattan (1, 2, 3, A, C, E trains to 14th St; L to 8th Avenue).

Nuestras reuniones enfocan en la gran diversidad de asuntos de índole cultural, educativa, política y social en nuestras comunidades, y están abiertas sólo a latinos gay. Nos reuniomos el primer viernes de cada mes en el Centro De la Comunidad de Ambiente que queda en el 208 West 13th Street cerca a la avenida Septima en Manhattan.
